Cat Rescue - Think & Hope For Feral Cats

Every town and city has a feral cat colony. Cat lovers immediately think of their own much-loved cats with their cosy quarters and square meals. World-wide, dedicated volunteers have thrown their efforts into helping these domestic cats living wild, assisting with programs ranging from sterilisation to re-homing.

  • Ferals and strays - what's the difference?

Stray cats are cats that have grown up with humans but because they have wandered or been abandoned are living wild and homeless. At least to some degree, they have usually been socialised to accept humans as benevolent. Feral cats may not have been fully domesticated for generations. They establish colonies where they breed speedily. It is entirely possible for a new generation to be born every six months. These cats are socialised in relation to other cats, but may have little or no experience of humans. In fact, they may have learned from other cats that people are to be feared. Nevertheless, depending on their personality, feral cats can be friendly and trusting - or become so. Others are shy and suspicious and resist handling of any kind, making them more challenging to re-home.

  • Management of feral cats

Older policies for managing feral cat colonies focussed on simple extermination. Today a more enlightened approach prevails, concentrating on neutering and spaying, vaccination and disease control. With breeding under control and health boosted, colonies remain stable and eventually shrink. Sometimes colonies have to be moved. Feral rescue may involve relocating cats to rural areas where they can live semi-wild around barns or stables. The most difficult option can be re-homing, but it is possible and often very rewarding.

  • Re-homing feral cats

Cat rescue authorities give varying advice on the issue of adopting feral cats. Under normal circumstances, kittens develop trust in humans early, in the first two or three weeks of life. Some believe that even at six weeks the window for socialising kittens is closing fast. In practice, it depends heavily on the individual cat. Some may resist taming even at a young age, whereas there are many success stories with domesticating older ferals. It is true, however, that the older the cat the longer it may take to become accustomed to people and domestic life.

The viciousness of a tiny ball of fur (and the damage small claws can do) can be truly astonishing, but is a measure of a kitten or cat's fear, not a sign of a malicious disposition. Many ferals are afraid of hands and handling. Hand feeding helps them to develop positive associations. Though it may take years of small steps, rehabilitated ferals can be transformed into loving pets and amiable companions. It's not a task for the novice or the impatient, but when a former tiger insists you provide a scratch and tickle, the hard work all becomes infinitely worthwhile.

  • Tips for potential adopters

The first task is to make sure your feral has been checked over by a vet, de-wormed, vaccinated and if necessary sterilised.

It may not be a good idea to introduce them into houses with other pets. Though other pets cats may help in their socialising, if you have a bad personality clash you may have to choose between them. This is unfair on the feral cat, especially since they often may bond with a first owner but not with a second.

Don't push the agenda, especially with handling. Persist with attempts to stroke and play with them, but back off if they object. They will trust you in their own time if you deal intelligently with their wariness. Your biggest allies in the process are food, patience and faith that there's a great pet behind the fear.

Pet Rescues >>Where is the Best Place to Adopt a New Puppy?

I know that there will never be a time that I will not have at least one dog as part of my family. Anyway, that is neither here nor there because you are reading this to learn where the best place is to adopt a new puppy. Now, some people think the best place is their local puppy store or pet store. This is actually one of the worst things you can do because pretty much without exception, these stores get their dogs from puppy mills which is a place that keeps dogs for breeding purposes only and in horrible, deplorable conditions. So don't go that route. Another thing to avoid is what is called a "backyard breeder." These are people who don't care for the health of their dogs but only care about making money by breeding more and more puppies.

The very best place to adopt a new puppy is from either the local humane society or animal control, or with a pet-specific rescues. Many people believe there is something wrong with those dogs. That is very far from the truth. Many puppies arrive into rescue daily, and you can get just about any breed you desire. So next time you are looking for a new canine pup to add to your family, think of pet rescues one first before you head to any stores.

Cat Behavior - Free Cats With Behavior Problems For Loving Home

Do you know where you can get hundreds of cats for free? It’s your local animal shelter and they are giving away cats for free that have behavior problems!

Sadly this is no joke. The number one reason why cats are given over to shelters by their owners is due to behavior problems. Cat behavior problems is one of the most frustrating experiences for owners and for cats. The two most common behavior problems are litter box problems and excessive aggression.

Cat behavior problems are best treated right away. It becomes increasingly more difficult once the behavior has become ingrained in the cat. Many cat owners don’t seek help until it is too late, and many veterinarians are not trained in cat behavior. Veterinarians mainly focus on medical and surgical problems, but they are starting to realize the importance of offering behavioral services as well.

If your cat has started exhibiting bad cat behavior you should always seek veterinary help first. This should be done to rule out any medical causes of behavior problems, which can be the cause sometimes.

Many people adopt cats from animal shelters wanting to give a cat a good home. Most of the time it works out, but for some new owners this can be a heart breaking experience. If the cat that they have adopted was given up for behavioral problems then they will likely continue in the new home. These types of things are often not preventable because often cats are given to animal shelters with no explanations of why?

If you want to adopt a cat from an animal shelter be aware of what you may experience. Odds are you will likely get a great cat, but sometimes you may not.

Adoption Foster >> Know more about Adoption foster

Foster Care or Adoption?

Adoption and foster care are two very different things. When the visits to the home beforehand are through, the social worker is finished and not a necessity anymore. This kid is no different form one of your own. Life books or diaries are wonderful. The whole family is able to join in and welcome the kid. A celebration for the kid is perfect and the bigger the better. Announce to the world that the kid has arrived. Bring about a mixing of all the new kid's experiences and past with yours. You cannot forget where this kid came from. If this kid is from a home that experienced abuse of any type. If the kid is to visit with foster families or their birth families, you will need to address the issues of time management. If the kid has special needs, allowances will be made. Changing from a temporary home to a permanent home is a scary event.

The Differences Between Foster Care and Adoption

Of course, there are many differences between foster care and adoption, ranging from the trivial to the significant. After a child is adopted and post placement visits have occurred, a social worker will no longer be a regular guest at your home. The child will have your last name. When you adopt, you will have to incorporate the child's birth family experiences and background and possibly former foster care situations into your family lore. If the child will have contact with birth or former foster family members, you should consider how visiting or corresponding will work within the context of your family.

An adoptive family has the same parental rights and obligations as a birth family does when the child is born to them. A foster family must defer many decisions about a child's welfare to a state or county social worker. Although a child may remain in a foster home for years as a foster child, the state can (and has) removed foster children for a variety of reasons. An adopted child, however, can only be removed for the same reasons as a birth child.

The remainder of this essay refers solely to foster children in state care.
If all attempts at reunification with the parents fail, adoption may be considered as the plan for the child. Parental rights will be legally terminated, and the child can then be adopted. Older children who probably could be placed with adoptive families may decide against adoption for themselves. In an increasing number of cases, foster children are adopted by their foster parents or placed in a legal risk situation with a family interested in adoption at the beginning of foster care or placed with extended family, and thus there is no need to relocate the child to another home, another school, new parents or new friends.

Many state social service agencies also offer picnics, bringing WAITING CHILDREN to the picnic in the hope the child and prospective parents may meet. For example, some children are not psychologically ready to be adopted, and some children might choose not to be adopted.
There are times when the child is older and has been in foster care homes for a while. The ideal adult who has success at foster care adoption generally has a lot of patience and a giving and caring nature. Surprisingly, it is often beneficial to have the child establish contact with his or her birth parents during the time the foster care adoption is taking place. There are other common traits shared by family units that had a successful foster care adoption.

Pet Shelters>>Where you will looking for Pet shelters?

Some people feel that by getting a pet from the pet store they are really getting the best animal they can brag about to their friends. This pet is a purebred bought from a pet store who got them from where? Ophra's show opened people's eyes to what goes on behind the scenes of where some of these pet stores acquired their animals.

Some cases the animals from the pet store have come from puppy mills or a breeding mill where the parents have never seen any human companionship, never been outside a cage, housed in poor conditions, improper medical care therefore leading to behavior problems and health problems that may not show up for months after. Just visiting the shelter can give a person an idea of what kind of animals are there dogs, cats mostly but in some cases other animals are known to end up there as well. The shelters are non profit and welcome volunteers so not only do people suffering from pet loss benefit getting back on their feet but so does the shelters for the help.

Pet shelters were created to deal with the many animals and pets that have been either abandoned by their owners or abused and neglected. It is good to donate some time or money to an animal shelter because they need it. The trained staff at the shelter looks after the animals and tries to rejuvenate the neglected animals and after the animal has been checked by the vet.

By adopting from the shelter or humane society, rescue group etc. you will save the lives of two animals the one you adopt and a homeless animal who's space you freed up by adopting a pet from the shelter. Anyone looking for a pet should look a these places first because the pet they always dreamed about could be there well looked after by the shelter and ready to go home with you. A place where they know they can rest assured will be their home until the end and even then with so many people cremating their pets, purchasing pet urns that provide the comfort, respect their pet deserves and these pets live on in many peoples lives.

Some people like to purchase dogs because they are devoted to one breed. There are some devoted hobby breeders who treat their dogs well though. Buying a puppy should not be easy or an impulse .

While buying a dog can be a guilt free experience, it is nowhere near the good deed that adopting a dog is.

Cat Adoption>>Howto Treathment For Cat Adoption

Cats are animals that are identical with the hair. Cat's fur is very easy to loose and made of dirt. If you just keep cat adoption, you need to give some initial treatment for your cat. This needs to be done so that the cat is not infected with the disease. Cat adoption we get from shelters vulnerable to disease, because there they gathered a lot of cats.

Some initial treatment you need to do , to get your healthy cat adoption include:
  • Hair care for cats
The easiest step to take care of the cat hair is to comb it. Uncombed hair that often make their fur soft and looks neat. Benefits cat when their hair uncombed, that they will feel like a massage.
Cat hair combing technique depends also on the type of fur and skin. Combing hair long but not heavy to use a comb with a blunt tip and how to comb it should not be too deep. For cats that have very thick hair and fur on the inside, combing hair should be two stages, straight comb and combed after each section, the whole hair combed back with a wide brush.
Comb your cat with a short wide brush. Use a straight comb at the long hairy.

  • Manicure Cat

  • Cat Ear Cleaning
Cat ear structures winding, coated with a layer of oil, and also covered in cat hair. Therefore, dirt and debris easily accumulate and develop into the ecosystem of bacteria and ear ticks. This condition is "torturing" the cats with the itch, not to mention if the lice creates ulcers.
Layer of oil can be cleaned by simply using the already ditetesi cotton baby oil or oil special cleaning once a week. If the layer of oil out again in less than a week, then your cat may have a health problem that should be consulted to the vet.

Cats For Adoption>>Reasons to Choose a Rescue Dog or Cat

Reasons to Choose a Rescue Dog or Cat

Those of us who volunteer in rescue all have at least one rescue and we know what terrific pets they can be! Here are some reasons to consider a rescue if you are ready to add a new pet to your family.

You're not starting from scratch with an older pet - When you buy a puppy, you're essentially bringing an infant into your home... a completely untrained, unsocialised little critter who thinks the crate you bought for him is a jail (and who cries to get out... at 3 AM!), the newspaper you put down for him to squat on is a wonderful toy to be shredded, your new shoes are much tastier than rawhide, and your best carpet is an excellent substitute for grass when nature calls!

Most rescue dogs have been house dogs in the past, come with some basic manners and may have even been living with a foster family to teach them the ropes.

An older cat most likely will be content being alone - a perfect match for someone who has an active lifestyle.

The bond is strong - Contrary to the belief that an adult dog cannot bond with a new family, a dog that has been abandoned once is usually eager to become part of a loving pack, where they feel safe and secure, and are likely to act accordingly. We find that rescue dogs are generally eager to please their new owners. Animals rescued from puppy mills often want to be in your lap at all times and will follow you from room to room, just to be near you.
Adult cats may sleep at the foot of your bed, in a cozy spot in your bedroom or under your bed. A kitten will most likely run around all night climbing and play attacking anything low enough to jump on - including you.

Fewer vet fees - Rescue pets have had physical examinations, have been desexed and are up to date on shots. When you buy a puppy or kitten, you pay for the pet AND for the vaccinations, desexing and other medical expenses.
What you see is what you get - When you buy a baby pet, you can never really be sure what type of adult you're going to get.

All puppies are cute and playful, but their adult personalities aren't visible until they're about two years old. So you don't know whether you're getting a dog who wants to play all the time (ALL the time!) or a couch potato. When you rescue a dog, you know what the dog's personality is like and whether it fits with what you want in a dog companion. You also know in advance about any problem areas you, as the new owner, will have to address.

A cat's personality has already been developed by the time it's one year old. A lap cat will continue to be a lap cat and it is easy to determine if the new cat will work out in a multi-cat household. With an adult cat, you definitely know what you're getting.

Adult pets are generally better for families - Adult pets generally are better with kids. Pups and kittens can play rough and cause harm to children by biting, nipping or scratching. When excited, large breed pups can knock children over accidentally. Children sometimes handle animals too roughly and can cause harm.

Adult pets are more mellow and more able to get themselves out of harms way and because of this are often more patient with children.

It teaches your kids good values - Face it - we live in an extremely materialistic society, in which TV teaches kids that everything can be bought, that they should get their parents to buy them everything, and that anything worth having costs a lot of money. Adopting a rescue pet for your family presents a wonderful opportunity to teach your children basic values of compassion and caring, and also about the value of second chances.

rescue pets>>Guide for find good rescue pet

We already know there are many pet rescue that provides animals for adobtion. If you do not carefully choose a rescue pet, then you will lose a lot of money to get the animals to the pet, and your animal adoption was not necessarily healthy.
Therefore you should see some good things in choosing a rescue pet. A good rescue pet does not usually sell their animals with expensive price. They gave the animal to the adoption of prospective pet owner that their animal can be treated better. So they do not seek profit from their animals.

I suggest you do some things below when you want to find good pet rescue:

Get A Referral
You can find reputable breeders by asking for referrals from your veterinarian or trusted friends, by contacting local breed clubs, or visiting dog shows. Remember, a reputable breeder will never sell her dogs through a pet store or in any other way that does not allow her to thoroughly meet with and interview you to ensure that the puppy is a good match for your family and that you will provide a responsible lifelong home.

Always Visit Where They Were Born and Raised
Always personally visit a breeder before buying a dog. Find out where your dog was born and raised. Take the time now to find the right breeder and you'll thank yourself for the rest of your dog's life.

Kitten For Adoption>>Where And What For Choose Kitten For Adoption

Thinking about getting a kitten for adoption? Well, first stop (and hopefully only stop)should be the local animal shelter. If you really want a specific breed of cat and can't find one at the shelters, try a breed rescue group.

By adopting a "shelter" or "rescue" animal, you are giving an animal a second chance, and maybe it's last chance. Overcrowding and lack of resources results in many of these cats and kittens being euthanized.

Don't forget food, vet expense, possible boarding or pet sitting, groomers, kitty litter, etc.
Some cats do not tolerate other cats well. If you are renting, are pets allowed? My favorite breed of cat is the "domestic shorthair", a catch-all term for mixed breed cats. Really, unless you are looking to show or breed the animal, there is really no reason to choose a purebred cat.

Mixed breed cats tend to be healthier. The animals will usually exhibit the most predominant traits of their breeds so knowing something about the different breeds will tell you something about the animal you are considering. Most breeds of cats differ only in physical characteristics, personalities are not determined by breed. When visiting a shelter, remember that cats are usually much more timid than dogs, and are often frightened by large, noisy spaces. Talk to the shelter personnel, find out as much as you can about the cat's normal behavior.

Should You Get a Cat, Or a Kitten?

Kittens are, without a doubt, some of the cutest little critters on the planet. And they are loads of fun, too... if you can keep up with them. Kittens are fragile, tiny, naive and too trusting. If a child hasn't yet learned the difference between a live animal and a furry toy, the "live toy" may not survive the experience.

When the single dad who lived next door to my shelter was annoyed that I refused to let him adopt one of our kittens for his little girl (so she could "have her very own little kitty to play with"), he easily found a local farm with the usual "excess cats" on the place and got not one, not two, but FOUR little kitties for her to play with.

In those cases, there should be no small pets in the home unless parents are willing to completely supervise the children. If you work all day, it's not fair to isolate an active, energetic kitten, as they really need to be able to run and play at normal intervals throughout the day. Instead, they will learn to sleep a lot and reserve more play time for night, when you are home. But if you are trying to sleep, this could be annoying.

Unfortunately, most people think nothing of giving kittens away at 6, 5 or even 4 weeks old. That's like sending your child to kindergarten at age 2 and expecting him to successfully fit in, learn to read, color, stack blocks, and behave correctly. If your life doesn't have room for the extra work involved with a baby animal, then give an older cat a chance. It may take a little longer for an adult cat to learn to trust you, especially if it came from a home where the people couldn't be trusted, but once you bond, the relationship will be very rewarding... for both of you.

Adoption A Kitten>>- Questions To Ask First When Adoption A Kitten

So, you have decided to adopt a kitten and become a new parent to an adorable, furry new friend. Money.Unless you are obtaining your kitten from a friend or from a classified ad offering free kittens, an adoption fee will apply. This is generally to cover initial medical attention, such as: vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and a general checkup. Even if you get the kitten for free, you will want to ensure that these procedures are done to protect the health of your kitten. Older animals do better when left alone, but young kittens need constant attention. Anyway, why would you adopt a kitten, if not to spend time with it?
  • Home
Are you allowed to have pets?
  • Medical
Is anyone in your home allergic to cats?
  • Family
Does everyone in your home want a kitten? Kittens are very fragile, and can accidentally be seriously hurt.

If not, it may be best to reconsider.

Adopting A Kitten For The Family?
Most people have owned cats all their lives, with childhood memories of various cats and their character, and they usually feel that home is not complete without a resident furry 'frfiend'. To some others, owning a cat can be a pleasure discovered much later in life. Mention that you have a cat, and most people will envisage a non-pedigree type. As a matter of fact, only about 10-15 percent of 'adopted' cats as pets are pedigree animals.

In general, though there are many people who can easily name a wide variety of dog breeds, they remain quite unaware of the extensive range of cat breeds that are available. The first being that cats a very personal pets, they are not taken out for walks, or for trips in cars like dogs usually are, so we may not see very many breeds unless we come across them whilst visiting friends or relatives who happen to have cats in their households. Then some cat breeds have only recently been discovered or developed.

Kittens enact the whole gamut of body language in their daily frolics, and this provides a wonderful opportunity to see just how much they can contort their agile bodies, or erect their fur on various parts of their bodies in their play fights. Obtaining 2 kittens form the same litter makes life fairly simple, but, if you would like to own one of the pedigree breeds yet cannot afford twice the cost, you can consider getting a non-pedigree cat to go with it.

Adopt Dog>>Choose Cute Dog Adobtions

For dog lovers, you are very fond of cute dogs and sweety.I recommend that you save a cute puppy from a dog adopted from a rescue dog, or a shelter dog who was assured. So important that you carefully in choosing a pet shelter or pet rescue.

There are so many shelter dogs / rescue dogs that offers a lot of fun for the dog you have, but to find a pet shelter there are several considerations should be noted.

Shelters are stressful places to visit, with lots of dogs jammed into small, harshly lit, noisy spaces. The surroundings can make dogs depressed, anxious, even manic, so it's often hard to know what they're really like.
Still, it's possible--and so rewarding--to find your new best friend in one of those cages. Here's how to go about it.

Some questions for shelters dog
Keep in mind that you won't always get good answers. Shelters that focus more on animal control than adoption may know very little about the dogs. And an employee who hopes to save a dog who's tugging on her heartstrings may not give you the full story.
Still, these are questions worth asking.

  • Why is the dog here? A stray is an unknown, but if a dog was given up, you'll want to know why. It may have nothing to do with the dog--a move, a divorce, an allergy--or it may be a behavior problem. Behavior problems are often treatable, but it's good to know about them up front.
  • Does the dog have any known medical issues? It's better to know in advance if you'll be facing large vet bills.
  • What's the best thing about this dog? What's the worst thing about this dog? You'll learn more than if you simply ask if a dog is nice or well behaved.
  • Has the dog been temperament tested? Temperament tests try to gauge a dog's personality and catch red flags such as object guarding and aggression. But take the results with a grain of salt: they're more a snapshot of a dog's behavior at the moment of the test than a lifetime guarantee.
i suggest, if you will saving a cute dog from pet rescue, maybe better you choose a not-for-profit organisation Pet Rescue

Pet Rescue Help for Rescue pet

In the United States, nearly every city and state has animal shelters. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the ASPCA, is the most well known animal shelter within the United States. However, each city and sometimes each county, may also have public animal shelters. These public shelters are generally supported by government funding and staffed by government employees, although there may be private funding and/or private animal shelters as well.

Within the animal shelter community, there are two types of shelters. The second type of animal shelter, called a No-Kill Shelter, has a policy not to euthanize adoptable animals. Private and not-for-profit groups have been created by animal lovers to attempt to fill the gap left by animal shelters who are simply unable to provide homes for all the animals. Private and not-for-profit animal rescues are generally funded by private donations and run by individual animal lovers. No one wants to see dogs euthanized alone, without loving owners to memorialize them with pet urns or pet head stones, so these rescues are highly valued within the pet community.

Some rescues operate kennels, where they house the dogs until a permanent and loving home can be found. Volunteers take a dog or cat into their home and feed and care for the dog or cat until a suitable permanent home can be needed. The amount of time a dog stays in "foster care" varies depending on the needs of the dog. Most animal rescues charge a fee for adopting a rescued dog, in order to cover the expenses they have incurred on that dogs medical care or to aid in the care and rescue of other needy pets. Many rescue dogs go on to live long lives in loving homes, and are memorialized in beautiful pet memorials by their owners when they ultimately pass.

Rescue a pet

Struck with how many stray animals are out there now, ostensibly because the economic downturn has compelled people to abandon their pets, why not consider adopting a pet from a rescue shelter?
To be sure, doing so means that you are in a position to provide adequate and appropriate care including shelter, a healthy diet, good grooming and over all commitment to the pet in question.
Last year, following on Prostate surgery, we chose to adopt two. They were listed on one of several online rescue shelter sites. Such sites have an overwhelming national and localized selection of a variety of animals.
Decision points to ponder:

  • Of course, if you have not had pets previously you will need to do some research on what kind of pet and care the one(s) you choose will require.
  • Warning: DO NOT give a pet as a gift. That is an inappropriate gesture. If you have grandchildren and they wish a pet, be sure the parents have approved. Otherwise be prepared for a family feud of enormous proportions.
  • Remember pets can be costly. Therefore, as those who have sadly discovered, do not consider a pet unless you are comfortable with the cost. This list is only partial. You are adding two live beings to your lifestyle, your home, your routine.

Once you know the weaknesses and strengths in having puppies you can decide whether you are ready to care for puppies, or maybe you better get a dog or other pet animal. If you are a very strong desire to have puppies, below I will try to give you an idea where you can adopt / purchase puppies. A place where you get the puppies a great effect on the future growth of puppies, so you can consider anything following

Where we Buy Puppies?
It's easy to find people with puppies to sell. If you want to be sure about the character and health of your dog your best bet is to choose a reputable breeder. If you are serious about finding a good purebred dog then here are some tips for choosing a good breeder.

  • Reputable breeders know a lot about the breed they specialize in.
  • Some breeders have puppies booked years in advance.
  • Breeders will usually look to help their breed.
  • Also notice if they will take a puppy back if for some reason the buyer can’t take care of it.
  • The most obvious clues about the quality of the breeder is by looking at the puppies themselves.

Puppies are a product of their upbringing and a healthy puppy will have a pleasant temperament as well as a healthy look. If you are buying over the internet see if the breeder can send you a video of your puppy.
The environment in which the puppies are kept will also tell you a lot about the standard of the breeder. If the environment is clean and the puppies have space then it is more likely that the breeder is a good one.
It's a good idea to talk and find out about your intended breeder before seeing the puppies. Most Puppy millers wouldn’t have time for this. If a breeder is good then they will be just as concerned about figuring out if you are going to be a good dog owner. A good breeder cares a great deal about the puppies and the homes they are sent out into.

Any puppy that comes from a backyard or puppy mill can be a dangerous buy. A backyard breeder will know little about the breed standards. Often they don't maintain puppy’s health properly. Puppy mills produce large amounts of puppies often in horrible conditions. Puppy mills often sell directly to pet stores. For this reason it is best to avoid puppies bought from pet stores. When choosing a breeder look find out how many breeds they breed. If a breeder breeds more then this most likely the person started out with one. Most reputable breeders will not let there puppies go before they turn eight weeks of age or more depending on the breed. This varies among the breeds.
